Tommy Sandoval, a Hall County Elections Board member who has been an officer in the Hall County Republican Party, has been charged with shoplifting two pairs of men's boxer briefs from Wal-Mart in Gainesville.

The alleged theft took place Jan. 29 at the store at 400 Shallowford Road, according to a Gainesville police incident report.

The boxers were valued at $30.

“Officers initially took the report from Wal-Mart, then obtained warrants on Sandoval,” Gainesville Police spokesman Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said.

Sandoval was booked at the Hall County Jail on Friday, Hall County Sheriff’s Deputy Stephen Wilbanks said.

Sheriff's records show he was released on a cash bond.

“I’ve been wrongfully charged,” Sandoval said Tuesday.

“Upon hearing of these charges, I personally went down to the sheriff’s (office) to answer those charges,” he said. “After voluntarily being down there, I was quickly released, and I look forward to clearing my name.”
