A Hall County Sheriff’s Office deputy was involved in a traffic accident on Candler Road Tuesday night, one of two wrecks within minutes of each other on the highway.

Multiple people including the deputy were injured in the wrecks, which occurred around 6 p.m., officials said.

The deputy who was involved was responding to reports of the first crash on Candler Road south at the intersection of Lee Land Road. He rounded a curve at Construction Drive and “encountered vehicles stopping for the original crash,” said Col. Jeff Strickland, Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

The deputy, whose identity was withheld late Tuesday, became involved in a second wreck that encompassed three other vehicles, Strickland said.

The deputy and three people involved in that wreck were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries, Strickland said.

Details about the injuries stemming from the initial accident were not released on Tuesday. It was reported to deputies as a serious injury wreck, Strickland said.

The two accidents closed Candler Road south from Calvary Church Road to Lee Land Road between 6 and 8 p.m.

Dozens of emergency vehicles swarmed the scene with Hall County Fire and emergency medical services, the Sheriff’s Office and Georgia State Patrol responding.

The GSP is investigating both accidents. Troopers were still on the scene at 9 p.m.
