State Rep. Doug Collins, R-Gainesville, has been named one of the most influential Georgians by a statewide political magazine.
Collins, who represents North Hall and parts of White County in the Georgia General Assembly, received the honor in the March/April edition of James Magazine, according to a news release from the Georgia House of Representatives.
James Magazine is a monthly magazine that focuses on Georgia political news and issues.
The magazines list of the most influential Georgians of 2010 includes House Speaker David Ralston, R-Blue Ridge, and U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson.
The list also includes the commissioners of the state’s Department of Transportation and Department of Economic Development.
Since the beginning of the year, Collins has served as the secretary of the House Appropriations committee. He also serves a member of the Defense and Veteran’s Affairs, Health and Human Services, Judiciary Non-Civil, Public Safety and Homeland Security committees.
In a statement released by the House Communications Office, Ralston applauded Collins’ honor in the magazine. When Ralston became House Speaker earlier this year, he appointed Collins’ as secretary of Appropriations.
“Rep. Collins is an honest, caring, hardworking member of the Georgia House of Representatives and his dedication should indeed be recognized,” said Ralston.
“Rep. Collins works tirelessly for the constituents of House District 27 and for this state, and I applaud him on this distinction.”
Collins has qualified for re-election to his seat without opposition on the July 20 primary ballot.
