A Suwanee man was killed early Sunday morning after losing control of his vehicle on Interstate 85 northbound at the Interstate 985 split.

Preliminary investigation by Gwinnett County Police indicates William T. Rollins, 31, of Suwanee lost control of the white 2003 Nissan 350Z he was driving, left the roadway and went onto the shoulder. The vehicle rotated through the grassy shoulder and hit several trees before coming to rest, according to Gwinnett Police.

Gwinnett Police were called to the scene at about 4:46 a.m.

Both Rollins and an unidentified passenger, neither of whom were wearing seat belts, were thrown from the Nissan, according to Gwinnett Police. The passenger was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center with serious injuries, but Rollins died at the scene.

Alcohol may have been a factor in the wreck, but a toxicology report is pending, according to Cpl. Illana Spellman, public information officer for Gwinnett County Police.
