A 13-year-old girl was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment of burns following a boat fire Sunday on the south end of Lake Lanier, according to Lt. Colin S. Rhoden, spokesman with Gwinnett County Fire Services.

Three people were injured in the incident near Buford Dam Park, but authorities did not identify the victims. Melissa Cummings, a spokeswoman for the Department of Natural Resources, said two adults and the girl were on the boat.

Gwinnett County fire crews were called to the scene at 1:55 p.m. after a 911 caller reported “an explosion on an older wooden boat and that the occupants (had gotten) off the boat,” Rhoden said.

The boat is in police possession and the cause of the fire is being investigated, Rhoden said.
