More charges for Gillsville man accused of child molestation
Michael Anthony Maxwell

Update, March 3: Investigators obtained warrants for two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor after searching a Gillsville man’s devices, according to authorities.

Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Derreck Booth said detectives received the results of a forensic analysis Feb. 27 of the devices seized from Michael Anthony Maxwell’s home in August.

“According to the ongoing investigation, Maxwell intentionally created a visual image of himself and the original victim engaged in sexually explicit conduct,” Booth wrote in an email.

Maxwell has remained in the Hall County Jail since his Aug. 5 arrest.

The case is still under investigation.

A Gillsville man was accused of “immoral and indecent acts” involving a 12-year-old boy, according to authorities.

Michael Anthony Maxwell, 45, was arrested Aug. 5 at his residence.

“Maxwell committed immoral and indecent acts against the victim, a 12-year-old boy, between May 17 and May 18 at Maxwell’s residence, according to the preliminary investigation,” Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Derreck Booth wrote in a news release.

Booth said the alleged molestation was first reported to Jackson County Sheriff’s Office by one of the boy’s family members, but the case transferred in June to Hall County.

Booth said Maxwell and the boy were previously acquainted with one another.

Maxwell was charged with two counts of aggravated child molestation.

He is being held without bond at the Hall County Jail.

No attorney information was available for Maxwell Tuesday, Aug. 6.
