The threat of identity theft fraud has led Georgia Power Co. to warn customers to take caution when providing personal or financial information. The company issued a news release saying it “has received reports of scam artists attempting to defraud customers by posing as Georgia Power employees.” In such cases, customers are asked to provide account information over the phone for a prepaid debit card in order to avoid having their power cut off.
