The head of a Gainesville-based organization that works with 51 city and county governments throughout Northeast Georgia is retiring Aug. 9. Danny Lewis, executive director of the Georgia Mountains Regional Commission, has led the group since 2005. He has otherwise worked in Georgia government since 1973, including posts in Cobb County, Douglas and Newnan.
