A gas leak Tuesday morning on Atlanta Highway prompted the evacuation of employees at the Hall County Schools transportation center, as well as students and staff in the Johnson High School annex building.

No injuries were reported, and the leak was repaired by the afternoon.

The gas line ruptured Aug. 28 during a lane-widening road project on Atlanta Highway, according to school system spokesman Gordon Higgins.

The Academies of Discovery campus is also located nearby.

“Fire services says since wind is carrying gas fumes away from the two schools, (full) evacuation is not necessary at this time, but (we) will continue to monitor conditions,” Higgins wrote in a morning email.

He emailed just after noon that Hall County Fire Services had advised that Johnson High and the Academies of Discovery could resume all normal operations, including outside activities.
