A portion of Sardis Road was closed for nearly two hours on Monday after construction workers broke a gas main.

The road closed at 4:40 p.m. from Chestatee Road to Dawsonville Highway (Ga. 53) after road construction crews working on the Dawsonville Highway widening project struck a gas main earlier in the afternoon, said Teri Pope, communications officer for the Georgia Department of Transportation. Deputies from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office rerouted traffic, and Hall County firefighters monitored the air quality while Atlanta Gas and Light worked to repair the broken line. No one was evacuated, and the road was reopened by 6:30 p.m. Monday.
