Almost a year since Rodney Griffeth’s death, his girlfriend was indicted by a grand jury on charges of felony murder and voluntary manslaughter.

Gainesville Police charged Pamela Ann Porter, 49, of Gainesville, on June 20 with murder related to a stabbing of her live-in boyfriend Griffeth, 48, outside of their West Avenue residence on June 13.

Porter was charged in the indictment on May 28 of felony murder, voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault and possession of a knife in the commission of a felony.

The grand jury returned a “no bill,” meaning no charge, for malice murder.

Attempts to reach Porter’s public defenders for comment were unsuccessful.

Griffeth was found unresponsive by police outside of their West Avenue home with stab wounds to the upper torso. He died on June 18.

The incident report listed alcohol being used by Porter and Griffeth.

Following Griffeth’s death, Gainesville Police obtained a warrant for murder charges. Porter was already in jail for aggravated assault charges related to the stabbing.

According to the indictment, Porter allegedly caused Griffeth’s death “acting solely as the result of a sudden, violent, and irresistible passion, resulting from serious provocation sufficient to excite such passion in a reasonable person...”
Police believe the incident began with an argument, something neighbors previously told The Times could be heard often.
