The Gainesville Public Utilities Department is still looking to repay about $23,000 in unclaimed water refunds.
Tina Weatherford, finance and administration division manager for the utilities department, said she has exhausted all efforts to find about 300 individuals who are due refunds from the city.
Such refunds are typically due to customers who have closed their accounts but moved before receiving their deposit back.
If refunds are not claimed within five years, that money is transferred to state coffers.
“I wish we got a bigger response,” Weatherford said.
Customers and former customers who think they might be owed a refund can check a list on the city’s website.
