The Gainesville City Board of Education is set to meet at 7 tonight, with a question-and-answer session on its charter system application set for 6:30 p.m.

The district filed the application with the Georgia Department of Education. If it is approved by the state, possibly in the spring, districts would be able to carry out education reforms without pressing state regulations. Also planned is a 6:55 p.m. administrative "tribute" to former board members Lee Highsmith and Frank Harben.

The board normally meets on the third Monday of the month.
