Gainesville recycling customers asked to not place food in bins

Gainesville officials are asking recycling customers to not put food or plastic bags in the recycling bins. “ReCommunity, the company that buys our recyclables, has notified us they will no longer accept plastic bags because they damage the machinery,” Solid Waste Supervisor Dan Owen said in a press release. “Pizza boxes free of food debris are OK.” Customers can place recyclables such as paper, plastic, glass and aluminum directly in the recycling bin.
