Gainesville Police Chief Frank Hooper received the Public Safety Officer of the Year Award for 2007-2008 on Saturday from Gainesville Lodge No. 1126 Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks.

Larry Emmett presented the award to Hooper.

Hooper celebrates 10 years as chief this year. He has spent 30 years with the police department.
