The Gainesville Police Department arrested a Gainesville resident in connection with several vehicle break-ins Saturday.

Christopher Lamar Cantrell, 21, was charged Saturday afternoon with one felony and one misdemeanor count of theft by receiving.

Police responded to a call about the break-ins and a stolen car at North Cliff Colony Apartments and River Run Town Homes on Thompson Bridge Road early in the afternoon.

Officials used the OnStar system in the stolen vehicle to find Cantrell at Lakeshore Mall, where they arrested him.

"The OnStar system definitely helped the investigation, which is still open," Officer Kevin Holbrook said. "A number of entering autos occurred in that area around the same time, so we're still determining whether this was tied to any other crimes."
