A Gainesville woman was accused of child cruelty four days after her 3-year-old son was left in a car unattended for roughly three hours, according to authorities.

Investigators took out a warrant on Alejandra Suarez, 26, for second-degree child cruelty Friday, Aug. 17. She was arrested Sunday, Aug. 19 and booked in to the Hall County Jail. No bond had been set as of Monday afternoon.

Authorities took the 3-year-old boy to Northeast Georgia Medical Center on Aug. 13 after Suarez called 911 to say she “accidentally left the child unattended” in the car outside her home in Chicopee Village.

Hall County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Scott Ware said the boy has been released and is in “good physical condition.”

The Sheriff’s Office responded after 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, to Suarez’s 911 call.

“She stated that she’d dropped off her other two children at their grandmother’s home, and the third child had apparently fallen asleep in the car,” Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks wrote in an email last week.

Wilbanks said the woman left the grandmother’s house without realizing the child was asleep in the car, and the kid was not found “until some time after she had already been back home.”

City and county authorities came to the residence and took the boy to Northeast Georgia Medical Center as a precaution.

The Division of Family and Children Services was notified about the case, which is still under investigation.
