Three Gainesville residents were arrested Sunday in connection with a bootlegging operation.

Hall County sheriff's deputies, Gang Task Force agents and Multi Agency Narcotics Squad officers served search warrants at two mobile homes in the West Side Mobile Home Park.

David Mendoza Ayala, 73, Domingo Martinez, 32, and Miguel Hernandez, 30, were charged with sale of alcohol on a Sunday and without a license. Antonio Rodriguez-Macias, 40, was charged with possession of marijuana.

All four were booked at the Hall County Jail early Monday morning, where Ayala was charged with immigration violation and Rodriguez-Macias and Hernandez were put on immigration hold. Hernandez also was charged with obstruction of an officer.

"We had information from an informant about the illegal activity occurring from the two trailer locations," said Lt. Scott Ware, commander of the narcotics squad and Gang Task Force. "They were selling beers without a license."

Officers searched lots 7 and 14 at West Side Mobile Home Park in the 400 block of Highland Terrace and found beer and less than an ounce of marijuana.

Though the squads focus on drugs and gangs, they address a few bootlegging cases each year.

"They pop up every now and then. People want to make a little extra money," Ware said. "They'll buy beers and then sell it for two or three times more."

In early November, three people were arrested and accused of selling alcohol illegally out of a home on Brown Street. The suspects allegedly were selling beer, wine, mixed drinks and shots of moonshine.

There was also a buffet and a stripper pole set up at the house, Ware said.

The incident resulted in charges of selling alcohol without a license and possession of untaxed distilled spirits for the small bottle of moonshine.

Increased traffic and suspicious activity could be signs of illegal drug activity, Ware said.

"If you see an individual walking into a location with money and walking out with something else, there's a tell-tale sign," he said. "It's generally common sense."
