Gainesville man charged after police find explicit videos of minors on home devices
Mark Jason Wood.

A Gainesville man was charged with nine counts of child sexual abuse material distribution after a two-week investigation, according to authorities.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office worked the case along with the Internet Crimes Against Children task force.

Sheriff’s office spokesman Derreck Booth said investigators executed a search warrant Aug. 15 at the home of Mark Jason Wood, 44.

“Wood was charged with the exploitation count on the day of his arrest for being in possession of a video depicting minor children engaged in sexually explicit conduct and acts. Investigators obtained an additional arrest warrant for the distribution counts on Friday, Aug. 16, when examination of devices seized during the search of Wood’s residence revealed approximately nine videos of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct,” Booth wrote in a news release.

Booth said the alleged activity was first detected during an investigation Aug. 3.

According to the Hall County sex offender list, Wood was on probation/parole. He also has a hold from a federal agency, though Booth could not discuss what that hold concerned.

Wood is being held at the Hall County Jail without bond.

The case is still under investigation.
