A Gainesville man accused of stabbing his older brother was acquitted on a more serious charge by a jury Friday.

Anthony Juan Hood, was found not guilty of aggravated assault under the Family Violence Act. He was convicted on a lesser-included charge of reckless conduct, and the judge gave him 12 months to serve in confinement.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office accused Hood in March 2015 of stabbing his brother Trevor Lee Benson, 25, in the abdomen on Marlow Drive in Gainesville.

“It was a sad case with a good outcome,” defense attorney David Hoffer wrote in an email. “Anthony’s family, including the alleged victim Trevor, sat behind Anthony in support of him throughout the trial.”
