The intersection of Hancock Avenue and Marler Street in Gainesville will be closed to traffic at 8:30 a.m. Friday as part of continuing sewer improvements in the area.

Gainesville’s Department of Water Resources said the intersection will reopen at some point Saturday, depending on how quickly the work goes.

The detour for the route will be through Moreno Street, Bradford Street, Stallworth Street and Dean Street.

The city is encouraging drivers to be careful and watch for construction workers and equipment in the area.
