Gainesville has a new assistant city manager.

The city has hired current Banks County administrator Angela Sheppard to fill the vacant position, City Manager Kip Padgett confirmed Wednesday.

Sheppard will start her term in Gainesville on May 4, filling the position Padgett left vacant when he took the reins as city manager in November.

Padgett became interim city manager and later city manager after former manager Bryan Shuler resigned in mid-November.
