Travel will be limited on Thompson Bridge crossing Lake Lanier this week.

Atmos Energy is performing maintenance work on natural gas lines attached to the bridge, which is part of Ga. 60/Thompson Bridge Road, said spokesman Joel Ames.

The utility will close one of the two northbound lanes from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, with work possibly completed by Saturday, Ames said.

Starting Monday, Atmos plans to work on the Longstreet Bridge that is part of U.S. 129/Cleveland Highway, also closing to one lane, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

That project, also maintenance work, is set to be completed Sept. 18, Ames said.

“This is standard maintenance of natural gas lines. We’re checking everything, coding them, making sure the hangers are intact and in good shape — something we like to do occasionally,” he said.
