Gainesville fire crews responded to a gas leak and fire Tuesday afternoon in a residential area.

Flames reached 5 feet above the gas line presumed cut by construction work on Hidden Hollow Drive off of Old Thompson Bridge Road, according to Gainesville Fire Department officials.

Firefighters responded around 4:30 p.m. in the 2400 block of the Hidden Cove condominiums. Spokesman Keith Smith said the leak is believed to have been caused by a construction company doing work.

No structures are currently in danger, and firefighters are waiting for the gas company to cut off the line.
