A new traffic signal is coming to Ga. 13 at Sawnee Avenue in Buford, just south of Hall County.
The city of Buford is working on the $164,000 project, which begins this week with site preparation, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
Initial work will involve clearing, removing portions of the existing concrete island and setting a timber pole, the DOT said.
“The signal will provide enhanced safety at the intersection, which serves as a gateway to the 4,200-student Buford City Schools campus, as well as serving numerous commuters and local traffic,” City Manager Bryan Kerlin said.
The project should be completed in 45-60 days, he said.
“Traffic interruptions should be minimal,” Kerlin said.
It is being done in advance of the DOT’s planned widening of Ga. 13 from Sawnee Avenue to Lanier Islands Parkway/Ga. 347 in South Hall.
