Since its opening, Frances Meadows Aquatic and Community Center’s customers wanted a fitness center and on Dec. 2, their wish was granted.
That day marked the opening of the new fitness center that includes equipment using the latest touch-screen and Wi-Fi technology. The center has the latest cardio and strength equipment, including treadmills, recumbent and lateral elliptical machines, recumbent and upright bikes and free weights.
“A unique feature of our cardio equipment is the fully interactive video-based workouts that take you around the world,” said Juli Butler, Gainesville Parks and Recreation’s Marketing/Communications manager.
The center will still offer its usual Zumba, Aqua Zumba, yoga, Pilates, deep and shallow water aerobics and senior Aquacize classes with addition of a spin class featuring LiveStrong bikes.
Frances Meadows staff members are excited about the new addition and are ready for the community to test the new facility.
“We are really excited, we are ready for people to come in, and give it a try, we have some of the best staff here, and all of them have been trained on all of the equipment,” said Zandrea Stephens, recreation program manager.
“You come in and you get a friendly welcome, what more could you ask for?”
The new fitness room’s hours are 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. It is closed on Sundays.
