The Lake Lanier Association plans to forward $10,000 it has received from Forsyth County to help fund its legal participation in cases involving a tri-state dispute over the use of Lake Lanier.

“We are thrilled to receive this money ... and would like to thank all the commissioners for their support,” said Jackie Joseph, association president.

The organization has been involved in the litigation since 2001.

A federal judge is hearing all the cases in a Florida court and is expected to rule this year.

The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners supports the association and its efforts to maintain a sufficient water supply for the area’s growing needs, Chairman Charles Laughinghouse said.

The group voted for the donation after association board officers described its legal involvement and aim to keep Lake Lanier as close to full pool — 1,071 feet above sea level — as possible.
