CUMMING — Authorities have identified the Forsyth County man killed Tuesday morning when the vehicle he was driving collided head-on with a school bus on Ga. 369.

Brian Matthew Walker, 27, of Heatherwyn Way died in the collision, which authorities said happened at about 8:40 a.m. between Little Mill Road and the Six Mile Creek Bridge in northeastern Forsyth.

Walker was traveling alone, authorities said. There were no students on the bus.

Forsyth County school officials identified the bus driver as Michael Roth, 43, of Cumming. He was taken to Northside Hospital-Forsyth, where he was treated for minor injuries and released, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office reported Tuesday afternoon.

Forsyth County sheriff’s Investigator Ron Tomblin said Walker was heading east on Ga. 369 when his white Toyota sedan crossed the center line and struck the bus, which was traveling west toward Lake Lanier. He died instantly, authorities said.

"We don’t know why he crossed over," Tomblin said.

The impact knocked the hood off the bus and sent the Toyota into a ditch.

It appeared part of the Toyota went under the bus. Tomblin said the bus did not travel far after the impact.

Fire personnel worked for about 45 minutes to remove Walker from the vehicle, which was crushed.

Authorities said Roth likely will not face charges in the wreck, which shut down the highway for awhile in both directions.
