Former Jackson County substitute teacher given 2 years in child pornography case

A former Jackson County substitute teacher was sentenced to two years in federal prison Tuesday, July 2, after authorities found hundreds of child pornography files on devices in his home, according to court officials.

Ernest Leander Shaw, 66, of Nicholson, pleaded guilty in the case following a Sept. 18 federal grand jury indictment.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Shaw taught at multiple schools in the county.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a tip in May 2018 regarding Shaw.

“During their subsequent interview with Shaw, he admitted that the images belonged to him.  Based upon Shaw’s consent to a search of his residence, telephones, and other electronic devices, and a search warrant obtained from a Jackson County Magistrate Judge, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office eventually found hundreds of images and videos of child pornography on various electronic devices in Shaw’s residence,” according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Following the two-year sentence, he will have 10 years of supervised release. The first two years of supervised release will be home confinement.
