Former Hall County fire lieutenant indicted on false statements charge

A former Hall County Fire Services lieutenant fired in April 2016 was indicted Monday on a charge of giving false statements.

Sandon Dax Lewis was also charged with misdemeanor obstruction of an officer.

Lewis’ attorney Adam Harkness did not return a call for comment.

According to Hall County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Scott Ware, the charges come from Lewis allegedly “lying during an investigation.”

The indictment alleges Lewis told law enforcement “that he had recovered a surveillance device placed in a government vehicle and that he had thrown other surveillance devices in the lake when the only item he threw in the lake was a non-working webcam.”

Lewis was also allegedly “misdirecting the investigation of illegal surveillance devices” between April 26-27 in 2016.

Lewis was terminated following his arrest. He started with the department in August 2002, according to Hall County officials.

The Sheriff’s Office did not release any further information on the case.
