Two new members will join the Flowery Branch City Council as of June.

Current council members approved a June 16 special election at Thursday’s meeting.

Qualifying for the Posts 1 and 5 positions will take place April 27-29 at City Hall, 5517 Main St., Flowery Branch. Fees are $144 for each post, or 3 percent of the annual salary.

Post 1 has been vacated by Damon Gibbs; Tara Richards’ resignation of her Post 5 seat is effective April 17. Both Gibbs and Richards are moving out of the city.

The Post 1 position runs through the end of 2015. The Post 5 position will go through Dec. 31, 2017.

Also at Thursday’s meeting, council members approved a $5,000 one-year contract with mobile app SeeClickFix.

Constituents will be able to download the app for free on their iPhone or Android. The service will allow them to report various issues around town, like potholes or graffiti. They can also connect with the service via the city’s website if they didn’t have access to a smartphone.

The reports will then go to the appropriate department to be fixed.

Councilman Joe Anglin voted against approving the contract.

“I like it,” he said at the earlier work session. “I guess the only hold-up I have is just the timing of it.

“Millage was raised, and I see this as a luxury. Because it’s a luxury, I might just push it to the next budget.”
