Cantrell Road in Flowery Branch has fully reopened, nearly four months after a culvert blowout closed part of the road, City Manager Bill Andrew said Wednesday, Oct. 3.

The culvert near Cemetery Road, just south of Atlanta Highway/Ga. 13, collapsed in heavy rains that swept through the area overnight June 1.

The collapse didn’t strand any residents, but Cantrell Road serves as a connector between Atlanta Highway/Ga. 13 and Thurmon Tanner Parkway.

The new crossing is a 10-foot by 8-foot concrete box culvert. The project was projected to cost $454,313.

The good news is city officials had planned anyway to replace the Cantrell culvert using special purpose local option sales tax money and other funds.
