Northeast Georgia can expect plenty of rain today after receiving a wintry dose of snow and sleet throughout Thursday.

The National Weather Service as of Thursday evening was predicting a 100 percent chance of rain for Gainesville, with a high of 42 degrees.

South Hall is under a flood watch until this evening, with the area having a chance of seeing 1 1/2 to 3 inches of rain fall. As of Thursday evening, a strong low-pressure front was approaching North and Central Georgia, dropping heavy rainfall until late this morning.

Because the area has seen significant rainfall during the past month, creeks and rivers prone to flooding will be monitored. The weather service is predicting widespread minor flooding until this evening.

On Saturday and Sunday, the skies should clear up with the high around 46 degrees.

On Thursday, snow and sleet were spotted in Dawson, Lumpkin, White and Towns counties. Icy precipitation also was seen in Hall County.

The most significant accumulations were in northern White County, where up to a 1/4-inch of snow and sleet fell, according to the weather service.
