Hall County firefighters from three stations battled several suspicious brush fires scattered along the side of Interstate 985 in South Hall Thursday afternoon.

Hall County Fire Chief David Kimbrell said the fires, called in by numerous passers-by shortly after 4 p.m., appeared to be intentionally set. There were nine total brush fires between Exit 8 and Exit 16, Kimbrell said.

Some fires were fairly small, Kimbrell said. The largest fire was about a half-acre. All were extinguished within 30 minutes.

The cause of the fires remain under investigation.

"They could be accidental, but it's unlikely," Kimbrell said.

The fires did not threaten any structures and there were no injuries.
