A firefighter suffered minor injuries in a Wednesday morning blaze that destroyed a home and claimed three family pets in northwestern Forsyth.

Forsyth County Fire Capt. Jason Shivers said the firefighter, whose name has not been released, was taken to Northside Hospital-Forsyth for treatment.

He was injured when he fell from a ladder, but was expected to be released later Wednesday, Shivers said.

The fire at 3557 Pleasant Grove Road was reported about 8 a.m. The home was engulfed in flames when firefighters got there, Shivers said.

He said the family who lived there was not home, but their dogs were inside.

"The cause and origin is under investigation," Shivers said. "There is nothing to indicate that it's suspicious in nature. It is believed to be an accidental fire."

He said the house sits back off the road. A neighbor reported the fire after seeing smoke in the area.
