Gainesville firefighters put out a car fire this afternoon inside an auto shop at 894 Wills Street just off Queen City Parkway.

Fire department spokesman Keith Smith said a man was working on the car when the fire started in the engine compartment and spread slightly into the passenger area of the car. The vehicle is a total loss at $5,000, Smith said.

The 600-square-foot warehouse it was in was not damaged and no one was injured, Smith said.
