Fire at duplex displaces 10 people

Firefighters work to extinguish a fire Thursday afternoon at a duplex on Walker Street in Gainesville.

A fire displaced 10 people, including two children, but caused no injuries on Thursday afternoon at a duplex on Walker Street off Mountain View Road in Gainesville, according to authorities.

The 2,500-square-foot structure suffered significant damage throughout from heat and smoke. There was heavy fire and smoke throughout the duplex when firefighters arrived to the 3:37 p.m. call, according to a news release from Hall County Fire Services.

The cause and origin of the fire is still undetermined, according to Capt. Zachary Brackett, spokesman for Hall Fire Services.

The American Red Cross is assisting the families.

Gainesville and Hall firefighters both responded and extinguished the fire.
