A 3-month-old baby is dead and her father is in jail after deputies responded to an emergency call in Forsyth County.

Forsyth County sheriff’s deputies and firefighters answered a call Wednesday from a home on Little Mill Road regarding an unresponsive infant. According to Deputy Doug Rainwater, the baby, Skylar Picklesimer, was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Rainwater said in a release that initially the father, 23-year-old Jacob Picklesimer, reported as having found the infant unresponsive in the parents’ bed. Further investigation revealed the infant had suffered “significant trauma to the head,” according to the release.

After questioning the parents and other witnesses, Jacob Picklesimer was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter and first degree cruelty to children. He was taken to the Forsyth County Detention Center where he remains without bond. The investigation is ongoing.

Funeral services for Skylar are planned for 2 p.m. Monday at Christian Hill Baptist Church.
