Authorities have identified the body of a man discovered Tuesday morning in a wrecked car off Candler Highway in South Gainesville as Cody Lamar Griffin, 22.

Griffin's body was discovered about 11:15 a.m. in the 2100 block of Candler Road near the Pointe Silverwood subdivision. He was reported missing Sunday from the 2300 block of Pinehurst Way, Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks of the Hall County Sheriff's Office said. He was last heard from at about 2 a.m. Saturday.

"Upon arrival deputies learned that a public utilities crew had discovered an SUV that appeared to have left the roadway, overturned and crashed in the woods," Wilbanks said.

Fire Chief David Kimbrell said the vehicle wasn't visible from the road and investigators believe it was a single-vehicle accident.

"The vehicle is severely damaged; (investigators) can look at it and see if other vehicles were involved," Kimbrell said.

It's not certain when the wreck occurred, but Kimbrell said it was probably sometime within the last two days.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office, Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the missing person incident. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the vehicle crash.
