The call came over the radio, a 10-7 (out of service) and 10-42 (end of tour of duty) for Georgia State Patrol Trooper Tyrone Collier Dillard. It was a call that gave a dignified sign-off for Dillard, who died while directing traffic Feb. 3, 1977, on U.S. 129. “When you hear it, it sticks with you for the rest of your life,” said GSP Commissioner Col. Mark McDonough.
