Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich is planning a stop in Gainesville at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Gainesville Civic Center, according to a campaign spokesman.

It's one of several campaign appearances in Georgia as candidates prepare for the upcoming Super Tuesday primary in the state on March 6.

Gingrich's campaign announced the two-day bus tour in Georgia also would include stops in Dalton, Rome and Carrollton on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Gingrich is scheduled to visit the state Capitol in Atlanta and appear in Covington before the Gainesville event.

Gingrich, a former Georgia congressman, is pinning his hopes for a comeback on the upcoming primaries.

His campaign recently announced plans to buy 30-minute blocks of television time in upcoming primary and caucus states for an infomercial on reducing energy prices.
