Scott Gibbs announced Friday his bid for the District 3 seat on the Hall County Board of Commissioners.

Gibbs, 46, lives in North Hall with his wife, Jennifer, and son, David, and he owns JD Gibbs Grading.

He will challenge Hall County Planning Board member Jones Cottrell in the election.

Commissioner Steve Gailey currently represents District 3 and will not seek re-election.

Gibbs was recently appointed to serve on a committee to revise the Hall County Code of Ethics. The temporary ethics committee included Gibbs and Hall residents Douglas Aiken and Tommy Sandoval.

"Now, more than ever, we need elected officials who will be willing to do what is right for our community and not just what is right for them personally," Gibbs said. "My appointment to the Commission Ethics Committee has opened my eyes to our county’s need for much stricter controls over bid processes, spending practices and overall accountability for how our tax dollars are being spent."
