Lakeview Academy has announced Kirsty Montgomery, the director of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Northwestern University, as its next head of school.
Montgomery, who will be the private school’s first female principal, will arrive at Lakeview in July 2020. She was unanimously selected by a search committee and Lakeview’s board from a national field of over 200 candidates.
“We are so fortunate to bring someone of Dr. Montgomery’s well-rounded academic credentials and leadership to Lakeview,” Clay Eubanks, chair of Lakeview’s board, said in a statement. “I look forward to seeing her embark on a bold new legacy for our students, parents, staff — and the entire Gainesville-Hall County community.”
Montgomery has led the Osher program for five years, overseeing a team of five administrators, 300 faculty members and over 1,500 students. The program offers study groups on topics such as civic engagement, history, government and literature.
Montgomery has taught from third grade up to 12th grade. She served four years on the faculty of the Illinois Math and Science Academy and five years at Omniscope Academy, also in Illinois.
She has a bachelor’s degree in political science from Northwestern, two master’s degrees in social sciences and history from the University of Chicago and a doctorate in history from the University of Chicago.
Montgomery and her husband, Chris, have six children ranging from college age to two seniors in high school and a 13-year-old daughter who will be attending Lakeview next year.
“I am deeply honored to have been selected as Lakeview Academy’s next head of school,” Montgomery said in a statement. “Lakeview embodies the type of school community that I gravitate toward, and its values are those to which I am profoundly committed. Chris and I are so excited to become part of the Lakeview family.”
John Simpson has been serving as Lakeview’s interim head of school since Head of School John Kennedy left at the end of the 2018-19 school year. Simpson will be assisting with the leadership transition.
