Wednesday’s skies weren’t necessarily blue, but folks still turned out to hear Clarkesville band 4 and 20 Blackbirds.

The Blue Sky Concerts are held noon to 1 p.m. every Wednesday in May on the downtown Gainesville square. This year, the free concerts feature some bands new to the series.

Joe Burnett, executive director of Mainstreet Gainesville, said organizers have tried to expand the lineup to more regional bands.

JazzCronic is coming up next week, and concertgoers can get free apple pie and free water on Blue Sky and Apple Pie Day, Burnett said. The Lake Lanier Convention & Visitors Bureau will provide the free goodies in conjunction with Tourism Week.

The series wraps up May 27 with local band Riverside.

The Blue Sky Concerts series is slated to return in the fall, with free concerts set for every Wednesday in October, according to the downtown Gainesville Web site.
