No children were on a bus that wrecked Wednesday morning on Price Road, but the bus driver and the driver in another vehicle were taken to the hospital.

The drivers of a school bus and a pickup truck were injured Wednesday morning in what appeared to be a head-on wreck on Price Road near Red Oak Drive in North Hall County, according to authorities.

Bus driver Rebecca Richardson, 42, and the driver of a Nissan truck, Tamara Dunagan, 53, both of Gainesville, were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, according to Gordon Higgins, spokesman for the Hall County School District.

Dunagan was seriously injured in the crash, GSP Sgt. Anthony Coleman said. Richardson had nonlife-threatening injuries.

No students were on the bus at the time of the wreck, which happened at about 8:30 a.m. Richardson had just completed her route and was returning home, according to school system officials.

Georgia State Patrol said the Nissan truck traveling eastbound on Price Road crossed over the and struck Richardson’s bus.

“(Richardson) stated that she made a defensive maneuver to attempt to avoid (the truck) that was in her lane of travel,” a Georgia State Patrol representative wrote in an email.

Dunagan was charged with failure to maintain lane, according to officials.
