A car overturned several times on Interstate 985 Friday, June 14, near exit 17 after the driver struck a barrier cable, police said.

Gainesville Police said it was a single-vehicle incident around 1 p.m. Friday.

“The driver was northbound and traveled across the median striking the barrier cable on the southbound side of the roadway.  This caused the vehicle to over turn several times,” Chief Jay Parrish wrote in an email.

The driver has been identified as 21-year-old Aeril Marie Hartz of Johns Creek.

The driver was the only occupant and was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in critical condition.

As of 4:15 p.m., all lanes were open.

No further details were released.
