DOT work could back up I-985 traffic

Motorists could see “large backups” next week as trees are trimmed on Interstate 985, Georgia Department of Transportation district spokeswoman Teri Pope said.

DOT maintenance workers are set to do the work Tuesday through Friday between north of exits 16 and 17 to just south of Exit 20. The inside lane of the northbound lanes will be closed as the work occurs.

Crews will work 7-5:30 p.m. each day, weather permitting.

Trimming trees is part of the DOT’s preventive maintenance work before winter, Pope said.

“We trim trees to minimize the chances of limbs or entire trees falling into the travel lanes when snow and ice hits this winter,” she said.
