DOT urges caution as snow dusts area roads

Tonight: A chance of rain, snow, and sleet before 1am, then a chance of rain and sleet. Cloudy, with a low around 32. Southwest wind between 5 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Sunday: A chance of rain showers. Cloudy, with a high near 40. West wind between 5 and 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Sunday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers before 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. West wind between 5 and 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.

A dusting of snow in North Georgia tonight has led to some slick spots on roads, and the state Department of Transportation is urging drivers to be cautious.

In a news releaes, the DOT urges motorists to avoid driving if possible. Although the agency has not implemented a full scale snow and ice operation, its workers are responding to areas where icing of roads has been reported.

Those who must travel tonight can call 511 or check the DOT Web site for updated road conditions.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for potential driving problems. Mixed precipitation is possible from Peachtree City to Athens and north tonight and another shot of it could come Sunday night north of a line from Rome to Cleveland.

Sunday's forecast is for rain with a high near 40.
