Dog owners, friends and fans are invited to enjoy “pink poodles,” “muttinis” and more canine-themed adult drinks Saturday in downtown Gainesville.
The Pup Crawl, part of “Howl-O-Ween on the Square,” will take place 6-9 p.m. Saturday and will allow participants to enjoy drink specials and sales at a number of downtown establishments, all benefiting the Hall County Animal Shelter.
“The Pup Crawl will involve all of our restaurants and many of our stores,” said Regina Mansfield with Main Street Gainesville. “For $10, you can purchase a wristband that will be at the animal shelter tent at the event. All that money goes to the Hall County Animal Shelter, for their adoption programs and items that they need to care for animals.”
Recess Southern Gastro-pub will have a “pink poodle” drink special available for $3. Luna’s restaurant will have a “muttini,” and Atlas Pizza will have “St. Beernards,” or domestic beers, available for a discount price between $2-3, according to Mansfield.
Nick Hoecker from Downtown Drafts will offer “Turbo Dogs” for $1 each.
“It should be a good time,” Hoecker said. “We’re kind of a pregame or a postgame, so generally people here are heading to Recess or Monkey Barrel or Wild Wings to go see a band.”
Mansfield said that is the general idea of the event. With the purchase of a wristband, participants will also get a map of all participating businesses and the specials they are offering, and they can visit as many as they’d like.
“What you can do is just sample or try different drinks at greatly discounted prices,” Mansfield said. “Most of these drinks are going to be under $4.”
Several retail stores also will be offering discounts that night. J.R. Crider’s will hand out a free koozie and a discount. Dress Up Boutique, Frames You Nique and Mena Mae Children’s Boutique also will have discounts.
Yoga with Emilie in Main Street Market will also offer one free yoga class for anyone who returns during business hours with their wristband, according to instructor Emilie Cook.
“Everybody is really participating in some way,” Mansfield said. “Not only are they getting that happy, good feeling of donating to a good cause, but they will be able to go to our downtown restaurants and get drink specials.”
The event will include a pet costume/trick contest at 6 p.m., followed by a concert featuring The Retro Rock-Its at 7 p.m. All events are dog-friendly.
