Emergency officials say a Dawsonville man drowned Thursday evening while swimming in the pool at his house.

John Paul Livaditis, 34, was pronounced dead at Northside Hospital — Forsyth after being pulled from an in-ground pool on Hickory Nut Trail in Dawson County, near Lake Lanier.

Lanier Swafford, chief of Dawson County Emergency Services, said drowning is believed to be the cause of death, but an official determination would be made by a medical examiner.

"I don’t have those results back yet," Swafford said Friday afternoon. "We should know more within a few days."

Swafford said Livaditis had been swimming alone in the family pool when he was found unconscious around 8 p.m. by family members.

The exact amount of time he was under water has not been determined, though Swafford estimated "about 30 minutes."

"He swam daily," Swafford said. "Family and emergency staff attempted to revive him."

An investigation into the incident continues.
